Under: Running
Just a quick post for today 01/12/2010. 12 days into the new year already and I have logged 62 miles of running (that's 5 miles a day for you mathematically challenged.) I am off to the best start ever for a year or a month in regards to my running.
And the funny thing is.. I don't see any problems or feel any extra pains with the extra running. I think the major reason for that is I have decided that in 2010, I am just going to enjoy the events I do. No trying to qualify for this marathon, or push too hard to get ready for that triathlon, you get the picture. I am just going to enjoy my runs / events. If I have a bad run or event, learn from it and move on, but don't dissect every thing about the run/race.
After all, I have qualified for Boston the past 3 years (and going in 2011); I am pre-qualified for the NYC marathon, and done more than I ever imagined I could do. Time to sit back (so to speak) and return to the roots of running; the pure enjoyment of it all.
And I do enjoy running. It has help me get into the best shape of my life, allowed me to see the world from a different perspective, and most of all introduced me to a great group of people and friends. And while some may question my passion (or as they like to say, my insanity) I have to answer to no one but me and the demons that reside inside. And there are a lot less of them than years past.
Even the cold snap we have experienced her in Atlanta has not slowed me down. Still got up every morning before the sunrise and logged my miles. Not because I have to, but because I want to.
I am looking at becoming a Level 1 coach with the US Track and Field association and give back to the running community that has supported me the past 5 years. I am going to volunteer a bit more at events rather than participating and cheer on the next generation of runners and triathletes. It is time for John to give back and share his experience with others.
Time to end this rambling, so excuse me while I kiss the sky...
