Well today we had our first snow day of 2010. Looks like about a 1/2 inch fell to the ground an in typical Atlanta style, the locals went bonkers. 27 car pile-up on the interstate, people staying home from work, and the ever popular "lets run to the store and stock up on mike, bread and batteries." (Some weird things come to mind but that is for another post...)

Now I was not raised in snow country by any stretch of the imagination.. being a San Francisco person and all, but it constantly amazes me how crazy Atlantans go when snow hits the ground. For one thing, it rarely last more than a day so there is no need to "stock up" for the grat blizzard. And then a little common sense is all that is needed to navigate the roads, but I guess speed is bulit into the genes of Atlantans. And I walked 1.5 miles to the Marta station and then another 3/4 of mile to the office and I still made it on time. Cold? yes, but layers are the secret to that game.

And tomorrow, the temperature is going to be about 18 degrees and I still will get up an run 8 miles or more. And folks will look at me like I am crazy. Maybe the running maintains my sanity.. ever think of that?

I am the first to admit that it is beautiful to look at though. Below are a couple of pictures I took with my iPhone of the beauty of it all.The first one is just a picture of a creek that flows into the lake at Lenox Park, where I work at.

The second picture is of the geese enjoying the cold day. Notice that the lake in the background is partially fozen.

But again, no reason to loose it all because of a a few flakes hitting the ground. Now if there was about 6 inches on the ground, that might be a different story. But again, it was not.

I will admit that it was nice and quiet here at the office though. And not having to stand and wait for the microwave "because some inconsiderate idiot walked away and their food has been done cooking for 2 minutes" was a treat. And the walk I took during lunch was peaceful and watching the kids sled down the hills on cookie trays was heart warming.Humm.. maybe it wasn't so bad after all.

Excuse me while I kiss the sky (and try to catch a few snowflakes)
